Our history
In August of 1995, Paul Quinn, together with his eldest son David, opened the Auction House of Falls Church on Maple Avenue in Falls Church, Virginia, a small suburb of Washington, D.C. After a devastating fire in 2001, youngest son Matthew joined his father and brother to start anew and they launched Quinn's Auction Galleries. Since then, Quinn's has become one of the nations fastest growing auction houses and is easily accessed from all points along the eastern seaboard.
In 2004, Quinn's acquired Waverly Auctions, a nationally recognized marketplace for antique and rare books, maps, prints, autographs; and is known nationally as one of the foremost auctioneers of Tasha Tudor original artwork. Quinn’s absorbed Waverly and its rare books and prints department continued success: often selling the collections of well known personalities, including the large library of Howard K. Smith, a CBS evening news anchor and prominent journalist.
Realizing that there are many residents within the greater Washington D.C. area who cannot physically or emotionally deal with all the details of estate resolution, moving, and downsizing, Quinn's created an Estate Services division, offering comprehensive estate services to residents of Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. Quinn's can advise you on items to keep for yourself and your family, hold an estate auction at your residence, bring suitable items to auction and coordinate charity and trash removal. Additionally, Quinn's can provide written appraisals for submission to the court or an insurance company.
The Quinn's team consists of specialists in all fields of rare books, prints, maps, antiques, jewelry and decorative arts. Quinn's believe in making the auction process approachable, affordable and friendly to both the auction novice and the seasoned veteran. Quinn's will work hard to place your items in the most appropriate auction in order to maximize your dollars, as well as provide all buyers with many specialty sales where they can start or expand their collections. At Quinn's every client is given excellent service, communication and appreciation, whether they are selling a single item or an entire estate. With so many options for buying and selling, you can be assured that Quinn's Auction Galleries can fit all of your buying and selling needs.
The Quinn family has been involved in the local community for over 20 years and has consistently looked to accommodate its changing needs. Quinn's has provided auctioneers for many local charitable organizations, including the Junior League, Children's Chorus of Washington, and Holy Trinity Elementary School. They have also partnered with R.L. Rasmus Auctioneers, a local auction house specializing in asset recovery for the legal, banking, and business communities. In 2006, together with Rasmus, Quinn's sold the contents of Blackie's House of Beef and Lulu's Club Mardi Gras, two Washington D.C. social landmarks. The Quinn's team has also traveled to Urbana, Virginia and held an onsite estate auction along the banks of the Tappahannock River.
